A Pavlovian Approach to Learn Coding
So, when I say "function" what do you think of? I think of pretzels, chips and salsa, pasta, and ... well ... my mouth starts to salivate. Strings, variables, arrays, and objects just make me think "mmmm yummy."
When I first started coding, it was an uphill slog. It took me 3 months to make one dumb website. It was for this economics tutoring idea I had.
After a 2 month stint of feeling like I was losing my mind, I changed it up:
I started eating anytime I did anything related to code.
I know it sounds goofy, but between that and always standing when I was learning (and opposed to sitting), my desire to do so became easy.
It's not something I came up with out of brilliance or anything (I'm sure someone else has done it). But it started back when I was studying economics in college. I just couldn't stay awake. So I started eating these little caramel candies constantly while I'd study. And all of the sudden, economics was yummy.
Some unexpected results are that when I hear about coding, JavaScript, PHP, or anything related to that ... my mouth salivates.
Anyway, I hope this helps someone. It sure helped me to learn it AND love it, even if it was rather primitive.
